Abstract

This book was developed to accompany a parallel course, Designing Art, Music, and Animations. The goal of the course is to provide an introduction to creativity at the intersection of digital technology and the arts. It is the third iteration of this sequence. Based on pilot implementations, the course and accompanying text have been substantially revised. In the current implementation, there are five chapters that focus on the arts and five subsequent chapters that focus on music. Each of five arts chapters provides an introduction to a different artist – the sculptors Alexander Calder and Bathsheba Grossman, the nineteenth century post-impressionist artist, Georges Seurat, and the twentieth century artists Mark Rothko and Jason Pollock.
