Abstract

Learning management systems have come a long way since Sir Isaac Pitman initiated the first correspondence course in the early 1840’s. Today, graduate management education is facing a number of serious challenges including globalization, rising tuitions, student visa restrictions, rising unemployment, reductions in tuition reimbursement, and changing student demographics. As a result of these dynamics the one-size-fits-all educational approach of the past is being transformed by Internet-based learning management systems. The purpose of this presentation is to illustrate how learning management systems, in general, and conditional release technologies, in particular, can help meet these growing challenges. Specifically, the results of an ongoing pilot program involving the use of conditional release systems in a graduate management course will be assessed.
