Abstract

This study examined the effects of four types of interactions on students’ quality of discussions and discussion satisfactions. The findings indicated that students who had low technology backgrounds achieved higher quality of online discussions than students who had high technology backgrounds in both homogeneous and heterogeneous discussion groups. Students who had high technology background had better performances when they discussed in heterogeneous group. However, there were no significant differences of discussion satisfaction among different types of interactions.
