Abstract

This paper discusses the use of e-mail and listservers (e-mail groups) as a strategy to introduce teachers to educational technologies. we investigated use of e-mail group lists not only to introduce teachers to technology but also as a means to discuss computers in pedagogical concerns. Futher, the research sought to verify if participation in these groups would afford the students (pre-service teachers) continued opportunities for debate beyond the confines of class meetings and a deepening of the conversation relating to computers in education. Subjects were pre-service teachers attending a Computers in Education Course at the Federal University of Ceará, in the spring and fall 2001 semesters. Results have shown students increasing participation in the group list and in the use of computers. The discussion group revealed to be an efficient tool in introducing students to a technology culture. Not only did it make pre-service teachers use technology more, they also used the tools to reflect and discuss about technology.
