Abstract

Contextual analysis is one of the most critical components building toward successful applications of instructional technologies in specific cultural and social backgrounds. Based on the comparison of historical development and current trends of instructional technology applications in the United States and in China, this study seeks to predict potentials in the application of instructional technologies in China and address related existent and emerging issues. Contextual variables such as historical events, economic development, policy-making orientation and cultural heritage will be discussed. Relevant data will be provided as support. The study features communication and collaboration with computer-facilitated technologies among remote sites, trans-continentally between China and the United State and inter-stately between the state of Virginia and Arizona.
