Abstract

The pervasive use of a variety of technologies throughout the society has been transforming our classrooms, albeit some developing countries are yet to enjoy this transformation. Teacher preparation programs and the teaching and learning environment, however, have not kept pace with this rapidly changing situation. In some instances the K-12 classrooms have benefitted from this technology evolution while teacher preparation programs lag behind. This presentation focuses on teacher preparation, the integration of technology, and the changing roles of teachers and students in the classroom. Finally, this paper will attempt to posit a way forward in order to make teacher preparation programs relevant in the context of increasing and changing technologies.
